Fibromyalgia
No doctor referral required
Fibromyalgia is a soft tissue, pain amplification disorder that can cause significant functional impairment and pain. It is associated with concurrent fatigue that is not relieved with rest, and stiffness not relieved with activity. Conservative estimates place its prevalence in a general context of “widespread pain” at 10-15% of the Canadian adult population. Many authors believe that fibromyalgia has a multifactorial etiology. This can include abnormalities of deep non-rapid eye movement sleep, irregularity of neurochemicals (serotonin, cortisol), poor fitness, loss of sympathetic nervous system control, stress, depression and local tissue factors.
At St. Catharines Pain Relief Clinic we can manage this condition with gentle and effective techniques such as: medical acupuncture, laser therapy and soft tissue therapy.
